Think Tank Tegernsee

Why we build the devices ourselves

tolinax develops aYOUne, a platform on which businesses run their daily work: customers, orders, stock, accounting, staff. Over 30 modules interlock.

Software alone is not enough. It needs devices that operate it: a terminal at the workbench, a display in the hall, a scanner in the store, a card reader at the door. Devices off the shelf rarely fit what the software can do, so we build ours in Rottach-Egern.

Housing, circuit board, software and lettering come from one house at Tegernseer Straße 89. Testing happens at the next workbench instead of by email across two time zones.

Why Reitrain and not Munich

The honest answer: the office stood empty and we drove past it. The first company address lies 800 metres further on, a residential and commercial building.

A fire-brigade supply dealer used the rooms before us. Before that the first Tegernsee coffee roastery stood here. Next door a master television technician still repairs sets from hotels and inns in the valley.

The workshop stays in Rottach-Egern because the distances are short. Anyone from Gmund, Kreuth or Bad Wiessee drives a few minutes instead of an hour to Munich.

What we have built here ourselves

The device line for aYOUne grew in Rottach-Egern: displays for wall boards, terminals for the workshop, controllers for kiosk operation. Customer projects and research work come on top, and about those we say nothing.

Anyone who wants to know whether we can mill and populate a housing need not take our word. The devices we use every day at Tegernseer Straße 89 we built ourselves. Pictures of the terminals and displays follow once the approvals are in.

What we do not do

We turn four things down without discussion:

  • Weapon parts. No accessory parts either, not even as a single piece.
  • Brand copies. No rebuild of protected products, no third-party logo without proof.
  • Food contact. Our printers and lasers do not run under food conditions.
  • Toxic materials. We do not cut PVC on the laser in Rottach-Egern; it releases chlorine gas.

What else we cannot do, we say with the quote. Every machine in Rottach-Egern has a limit. A laser has a working area, a printer a build volumeBuild volumeThe maximum volume a 3D printer or laser can process in one run. Larger parts are split and joined — bonded when printed, slotted together when laser cut., a material a temperature ceiling. Those limits stand on the area pages before you ask.
